Superman in IMAX 3D

Tags: movies

So Bill and I saw Superman last night (my second time, his third) in IMAX 3D. We went to the Richmond St. Paramount in Toronto.

This was the first IMAX movie I've ever seen. It was interesting on a number of levels.

First, was the screen size. When you're sitting there, the screen doesn't really look much bigger than a screen that you'd see at any other theatre. Apparently though, it's ten times bigger. Crazy!

Second, the sound rocks. Wow. They do a demo of the IMAX sound system at the beginning, and it's just nuts.

Third, the 3D. Pretty cool, but you can really tell that this was a conversion of a 2D movie into 3D. It's worth noting that there are really only about 15-20 minutes of total 3D time during the entire movie (plus the trailers, which were all in 3D). An icon comes up at the bottom of the screen whenever it's about to go 3D, and the whole audience then puts their glasses on. When the 3D is done, another icon pops up.

And for anyone wondering, IMAX does not use crappy red-blue style 3D. It's much more advanced than that.

Overall, the 3D is nifty, but doesn't add a whole lot to the movie. A dedicated 3D movie would look much cooler (like the 3D Muppets show at Disneyworld, if it's still there).

So if you're in the area and haven't seen it, then I recommend checking it out in 3D. Otherwise, it's not really worth a dedicated drive out to TO (we were already in TO to see the Jays game).

Sucks that the Jay's had to loose, but overall a really good ballgame. I don't know about you but my forehead ended up sunburnt from all the time in the sun. Got to get out to another game, where the win :)

And get on the Jumbotron ;)

Bill.

One time I was at a 3D movie that was about fish. It was scary. At first I though I was going to drown because all the fish were surrounding me. After a minute of screaming I realized I must be ok, because if I was able to scream that loud, then there must be air. But then this one skinny yellow fish singled me out. An entire audience to choose from, but he went for me. I left when he (maybe a she) tried to go for my eyes.

Hey man, I just thought I should tell you to be careful about your movie reviews. They gave Ebert cancer and Siskell died a long time ago.

I'll use this opportunity to express my disappointment in your decision to eliminate swearing form these messages. Though it often denotes a poor vocabulary, sometimes the perfect emotional response can be conveyed by screaming "PURPLEFYCKINGALBATROSSGREASE" as loud as you can. (y=u, it's like a code)

Also, I REALLY enjoy typing in a code everytime I post a comment. It makes me feel like I'm making the internet safer and fighting terrorism. GO AMERICA!
